After 3 weeks, I have reached the mid-point on my road trip across USA! I am also at the eastern most and northern most stop of the road trip. It has been a fabulous three weeks. I have driven 6700 miles and walked 233K steps so far. Have traveled through 22 US states + Ontario, Canada. I have visited and hiked in 12 national parks. Enjoyed time with friends and family in many different cities. Next, I head south and then back west towards home.
This was one of the rare days in my road trip where I am not driving to a new place. We have the full day to explore Acadia and come back to our cottage. Not having to pack and then unpack feels good. Also, no recharging sessions for the Tesla needed today.
The weather forecast calls for rain after 8pm today, continuing into tomorrow. So, the plan is plan to maximize our time in the park. Had our own breakfast in the cottage, saving time not going to a restaurant. Packed our lunch sandwiches and set out for a day of hiking.
Setting aside my fear of narrow exposed ledges and sheer drops, I focused on one step at a time and mostly looking up, not down. The views from the summit were wonderful.
On the way back, stopped at a lake called "The Bowl" for lunch.
Pumped up by our success on the Beehive, we took on the much harder Precipice Loop Trail. I was not sure about doing it, so split at the fork part way up and took the Orange and Black Path to the summit.
This was still quite hard for me as the trail went up and down along the sheer cliffs on a narrow exposed trail. Had to scramble up and down lots of boulders.
We met up at the summit, enjoyed the views and headed back down. The two hikes were quite the adrenaline rush.
Next we drove to Jordan Pond, walked around and watched the sunset.
As we drove back to the cottage, it started to rain. It was a long, but very satisfying day at Acadia.
The raw numbers for the day:
- 60 miles driving, 17600 steps walking
- 0 Tesla supercharger stops
- 1 State - Maine
Y'all are so cool! Seems like a pretty intense day; I am glad that it was fulfilling and exciting.
